Yeppers... its that time of year! Sweethearts everywhere are beginning to prepare for a romantic Valentine's Day, and the gift of chocolate is as iconic as Valentine's Day itself. But who needs the extra calories??

So how about a yummy gift that wont ruin anyone's figure! Chocolate glass hearts are now available on my website and Etsy shop in two sizes: medium 15mm, (perfect size for earrings) or the larger focal heart 20mm in your choice of milk chocolate, white chocolate or dark chocolate!

These all made to order and current turnaround time is 48-72hrs (depending on the number of orders waiting and the amount of hearts per order)... so this is the perfect time to order yours!

Okay, so its a little early in the year to really know whether its going to be a good year or not. I can typically know within the first two weeks.... but I have lots of hope and faith that this year WILL be much better than 2011... for a lot of people!

So let's keep the faith, shall we!

I hope your New Year's celebration was a good one. We stayed home and played board games and ran in the New Year with a good meal, good friends and family. :)

I didnt get as much torching done as I usually do over the holiday season... times have been tough but here is a little of what I created before ringing in 2012.

The set I really loved making the most this year in 2012 has beent he Punch Drunk set. The whole concept came from the artisan made murrini I received from my friend Michelle Veizaga of SunDoorBeads on Etsy!

Her murrini is awesome and really ignites my creative muse! Im looking forward to creating more beads using her murrini, and she has generous asked me to test out some of her samples which Im soooo excited to do! So look for those sets to come!

Rather than blogging about torching... Im going to fire up the torch and melt me some glass!!!!

In a Blink of an Eye

Seems like just yesterday I wrote my past post.... but now that Im looking at the date of my last post, clearly thats not the case and it has been much longer than yesterday, lol.

Time moves quickly enough... then throw in the holidays and "zooooom".... every day starts to feel as though we are holding on for dear life, and in my case, thats exactly what its been like!

Thanksgiving was wonderful, as it is every year. Ive been so blessed and had much to be thankful for, including having my son home, the wonderful smell of savory home-cooked food in the air, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on the TV, and lots of activity in preparation for the big shopping day the following day. We ate until we were stuff (which didnt really take long as our stomachs have shrunk from our modified portion intake and weight loss).

Going out each year to cut down our family Christmas tree is a tradition for us, regardless of the weather. Because this year had been so much warmer than years before, our hopes of walking in a white winter wonderland to find the perfect tree was dashed as we ended up having a rainy and quick pick in order to keep from getting soaked.

I have to say it was the prettiest tree and looked even more beautiful once we finally got it decorated.

Tucker, our golden retriever.... had a birthday on Dec 17th as we celebrated his first birthday. Yay!! At 78lb, it is difficult most days to looks at him and try to remember he is still just a "pup", but it only take a few seconds watching to know just how young he is.... as he still bounces like Tigger whenever he gets excited. :)

Tucker loves everything about Christmas... from the tree and ornaments, all the decorations in the boxes and containers .... to the wrapping paper for all the presents. It was a HUGE fascination to Tucker. His curious mind is one of many things I love about my furry little boy!

Of course, there was time for lots of bead making too.... and even as I write this, I have a kiln full of beads. :)

We plan to stay in for New Years, as we always do... play some board games, watch the ball drop in Time Square, and enjoy a wonderful meal and a bottle of champagne by a cozy fire.

I want to take this moment to thank you all for reading my crazy posts, posting your comments, for your support, friendship, and all the laughs and giggles along the way. There has been some difficulties we've all had to face this year, some more than others, so my wish for you is that I hope 2012 brings you all the good things in life, happiness, good health, success in whatever you choose to do.

Its seems every year about the time October comes... time picks up speed and days whiz by, turning into weeks... and then next thing you know.... Thanksgiving is only days away. Yep... Thanksgiving has snuck up on me and Im totally unprepared! Its a week away, so I spent most of today writing out my grocery list, doing the "Fall cleaning" I had intended to do in October in order to prepare the house for the holidays and seal up the windows from drafts.

Let me just say this..... Fall cleaning and Thanksgiving isnt something one should EVER do around the same time! What a HUGE task it is.

Course, Fall cleaning (as is Spring cleaning) is a major cleaning... much like you would if you were moving out of an apartment or moving out of your house. Every crevice, nook and cranny gets wiped out, woodwork cleaned and polished, windows washed (inside and out).... its a house "overhaul".... at least that is how its always been in our home, and my parents home when I was growing up.

The good news is that the house has a brand new looks, feel and smell... and that is an awesome feeling as the winter months begin to creep in. I dont know about you, but winter can be long and dreary and nothing worse than having to look at dust and bits left from the previous year trapped between window panes!

All in all.... Im excited about Thanksgiving simply because it is one of my favorite holidays next to Christmas. I "LIVE" for cooking Thanksgiving dinner in my home for my family (I do it every year) ... I love having my family together... love watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade... and the house filled with laughter, happiness, and love ..... and let's not forget FOOD. Lots of food.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

"Its the most wonderful time of the year...." is really a conscious state of mind because as the last days of the year begin to come and go so much faster (at least that is always how it feels, right?), it can be hard to not get caught up in the holiday stress that inevitably creeps up on us when we least expect it.

Take Thanksgiving, for example. Its next week and Ive barely caught up with Halloween and taking down my yard decorations, and no.... I havent picked up a turkey yet either. But thats okay.... because this year Im taking the "live in the moment" approach to the holidays and trying to pay too much attention to the pace that retailers set for everyone during this festive time of year.

Yep, Im doing the holidays MY WAY... and on my terms.... in a relaxed, easy-going, "come what may" way! Its possible we could be having a turkey-shaped meatloaf for Thanksgiving (but Im sure that wont be the case) .... and that would be okay because its really about family, being thankful for all that the year has brought us and the Lord has provided us!

As for the show I did at Nicolet High School in Glendale, WI this past Saturday.... well, it was a nice venue, the kids were so awesome in helping vendors unload and reload their vehicles after the event, and the attendance was nice, but unfortunately the sales werent. I did make back my vendors fee so not all was lost.... and it gave me a chance to network, meet new people and show off my glass goodies and get my business cards out to people locally! :)

However, I did manage to torch up some pretty new things... so take a peek and let me know what you think! You can find most of these available on my website, just in time for holiday gift giving! :D

I hope that whatever your plans are for the holidays, that you do them your way and at your pace.... and dont allow the holiday stress to creep up on you. This really is the most wonderful time of the year... just as long as we try and remember what those reasons are!

I Caught the "Whimsies" Bug...

Ive been feeling particularly goofy lately. This isnt all that unusual for me, but lately Ive made best friends with my child-side.... and its evident in the glass goodies Ive been torching. :D

My show and tell yesterday on my facebook page was so much fun and I cant tell you how much I enjoy the interaction with all the people, friends and fans on my facebook page!

I think I can say the show n tell was a success in that everyone seemed to have fun, glass goodies were purchased and custom orders were placed!

Here are just a few of the goodies that were fresh from my kiln (and now sold). But no worries because I still have that goofy feeling going and still making whimsy glass goodies that I will have to show during this week.

Speaking of fun, whimsical glass goodies.... currently, Im having a 20% off sale on my website on all my Halloween inspired bead sets! The sale runs from Sunday to Wednesday and all the sets are already marked down so no codes to remember!! :)

It's all about the Green and Gold, baby!

Green Bay Packers, that is. :) I think it might actually be a crime to not be a GB Packers fan if you live in Wisconsin, lol....

So here is my little "olde" to the Packers....

Pumpkin & Tomato Soup Recipe

Serves/Makes: 10

INGREDIENTS:

2 cups finely chopped onions

1/3 cup butter or olive oil

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme, minced

1 can (1 lb 13 oz) pumpkin

1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes

1/4 cup parsley, finely chopped

1 tablespoon honey

6 cups chicken stock

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1 can rinsed, drained small white beans

salt and pepper, to taste

PREPARATION:

Saute the onions for 10 minutes, until translucent. Add the nutmeg, pumpkin, tomatoes, honey and chicken stock, stir and simmer for 5 minutes. Puree, add the cream and beans, simmer 5 minutes. Stir in parsley, adjust seasonings and serve.

One Step Ahead

So for a few weeks Ive been struggling with my creativity, mostly stemming from the lack of sleep, constant fibro pain, stress with what is going on with my oldest son's livelihood, and our own finances of late.... but this weekend something finally "gave" and the creative juices started flowing... so I started torching!

My creativity broke through like the flood gates had been cracked open! Joy o' joy.... I couldnt have been happier!! I mean, seriously.... how stinkin' CUTE are these holiday bead sets?! Gotta love the cardinals, right! :D

So much so that I decided to have a big Show n Tell on my facebook page and combine it with a fun sale. For every "reserve" at my Show n Tell or purchase on any on my shops or website between 1 and 4 pm, buyers would be eligible for a free pair of beads, their choice of: candy corn or crows!

It had been a while since my last game so I decided to add a Halloween Hangman game to the mix as well, with the winner getting a secret coupon code worth 15% off their purchase on my Etsy shop! It was a Sunday filled with fun, LOL! :)

Granted, none of my bead sets made this weekend had anything to do with Halloween, so I admit Ive stepped ahead a little bit, but when the creativity bug bites.... you listen! :)

A Change is Coming.....

No matter how much you try, you cant stop change! And its time for changes in how this blog is utilized.... so Im amping it up and combining it with my website and newsletter to create a super fun place to hang out, see the newest glass goodies, enter the latest glass bead freebies and contests, and even see some really amazing handmade shops and websites you might not have ever heard of, featuring talented designers and friends that definitely deserve some time in the spotlight!

I will admit having spent a lot of my time on facebook with friends and fans promoting my handmade lampwork beads, jewelry and now my stamped metal jewelry and tags, but since facebook's decision to make major changes to the format, it has become less than friendly to businesses. I still like spending my time on facebook and will most likely continue to do so, but when it comes to my business.... its fate lies in MY hands and not in the hands of facebook and so its time for a change. :)

So where to begin? Well, signing up for my newsletter will definitely be the place to start as it will tie everything together as it will be the main venue for announcements regarding the promotions, free bead contests/giveaways (which will take place on my blog), and special offers for subscribers that nobody else will be have knowledge of!

Following my blog is definitely a good secondary action as this will be the place to see all my newest creations and your chance to participate in my giveaways and promotions! Both these venues will tie into my website, Bastille Bleu.com, where you will be able to easily access the newest goodies available and make payment on any custom orders.

Im really excited about this new journey in blogging and taking my business and blogging to a whole other level! What I would really LOVE to do is to figure out if there is a way to create a live chat window for my blog so I can chat with everyone in "real time" as I really LOVE keeping in touch and chatting with my fans, buyers and friends. Guess I will need to explore that and see if it can be done.

So Ive been dabbling in wire wrapping lately and have been creating some wire wrapped rings for an upcoming show in November for my booth.

So far, so good... then I came across an adorable lady named Karen of O. This weekend is going to be a busy one! I have a lot of torching to do, changing out my wardrobe from summer to fall and getting the summer stuff packed up and out of the way, get the backyard mowed as the grass will be growing much slower now, deadheading the garden, baking, cooking, and having fun playing with the dogs outdoors while the weather is still enjoyable!

I seem to be in a froggy mood lately as Ive created yet another cute frog set.

This time with a wild animal print theme! The focal is decorated with flowers, two hearts, and a frog holding on to dear life on an animal print barrel bead. Zebra striped rounds and a cute red heart bead complete this whimsy set.

Ive always loved this color combination, and this purple and aqua pair is lovely with the gold adventurine swipe and swirls. Just wished my gold adventurine stringer was more saturated with gold.

This is what happens when you use clear encased gold adventurine stringers instead of pulling your own from adventurine frit. Live and learn!

Over and Over Again

When I started making glass beads, I never thought the day would come that I would love making bead sets, or making a certain number of the same bead over and over again! I was dead set against making bead sets and wanted to concentrate on just making focals as I was afraid I would become bored very quickly doing the same beads more than once or twice.

To tell the truth, I rarely ever do focals, and the majority of the beads I make are sets of 7 or larger with the exception of pairs! When it comes to custom orders, I really have a soft place in my heart for them!

I think the fact that someone liked my beads so much that they wanted to have a certain set or bead remade into multiples is so flattering that Im tickled to make them!

Life has been hectic the past couple of weeks that Ive barely had time to shower some days (yeah, I know, TMI = "too much information"), but thankfully I managed to get on top of everything and get it under control and looking forward to the summer winding down and AUTUMN!

So enough about me and my blog.... check out the fun bead sets and jewelry Ive been making the past few weeks! Im so excited about the personalized stamped metal jewelry and tags. The necklaces I made my youngest son and his girlfriend were a huge hit, in fact everywhere they went they were asked about their necklaces, where did the get them/buy them, etc.

Ive also have been blessed to make a set of memorial charms for a friend's beloved dogs who have passed on, which she plans to hang around the neck of the urns she has their ashes in. They turned so darling, that I decided to make one for my sweet little Copper who passed away Jan of 2009. Even the adjustable hemp/bamboo beaded bracelets have done well, which Im so happy. Stamping It Out....

I'll always be a glass bead maker for as long as I can hold a mandrel and wind glass on it.... but Im also a jewelry designer and have really enjoyed making one a kind jewelry pieces using my own lampwork beads. The one thing I have had to rely on was the little Bastille Bleu tags I attach to my jewelry, and they have been costing me a fortune.... so I decided to look into making them myself.

Stamping metal seems like a simple task.... I mean, how hard and costly can it be? Ive already got one empty pocket from the great expense that is lampworking.... well, stamping metal is not cheap either!

There is the metal sheets, and "blanks" which are the metal shapes that you will stamp your letters and/or designs on them.... and depending on the metal (copper, nickel, brass, sterling silver, etc) the cost can really gouge your pocketbook! Then there are the other tools you will need.... the letter stamps, any design stamps, steel wool, files, Liver of Sulpher (LOS), hole punch, hammers, saw and blades, and so on. "Ka-ching, ka-ching, ka-ching!".

But once I went broke getting everything I needed.... I soon found out how much fun it was playing with the metal and stamps, and its been a nice alternative to my torching when Im not exactly feeling "inspired" to melt glass. Ive been stamping for about eight months now (as well as making my own wire-wrapped rings and other hammered wire jewelry components), mostly just making my own jewelry tags to include on my jewelry, but recently ventured out into making stamped metal jewelry after making my youngest son and his girlfriend semi-matching "boyfriend/girlfriend" charm necklaces.... and Im having a blast. I like being able to combine my love for glass and my new-found love for stamped metal.

As the summer winds down and the holidays are visible in the distance, I'll be adding stamped metal charms and jewelry to my website..... so look for that in the next few weeks! And of course, Im always happy to accept custom orders for beads and jewelry, so if you have something in mine, email me and let's create something fabulous! :)

A Thing about Rings....

It doesnt take much for me to become bored.

I have OCD and ADHD so trying to keep my attention on anything for any length of time AND not obsessing over it, is a real miracle! But.... I have to say Im really having a lot of fun with making the glass rings, and have now found yet another fun thing to do.... my latest project, wire-wrapped rings. Woohoo!

Ive always been in total awe of those who make such gorgeous works of art by wire-wrapping gemstones, glass and anything else (yeah, you KNOW who you are!)... and decided I wanted to learn a little something about it and possibly even acquire a new skill in the process. So I began my adventure online searching for video tutorials, how to tutorials I could purchase online and of course, wire-wrapping books while in my local craft stores. The more I read about it, the more fascinated I am!

Since I typically have a small stash of orphan beads that somehow find themselves without a set to call their own, I decided to purchase some wire at my local craft store and do a little wire wrapping of my own. I started out with the basic wire wrapped ring.

Lets just say, my first attempt was sort of wonky, but the second one I made had GREATLY improved! Now Im hooked on making these cute little beaded/wire-wrapped rings, and even have several of them that I wear daily and have already started getting compliments on when Im out and about! :)

Here is a few that Ive made so far. I'd love to know what you think?? In the meantime... here is also some of the latest beads Ive been working on as well! :)

My brain is feeling happy and very stimulated by this newly learned skill. Life is good!

Learning Something New

There's nothing quite like the thrill of learning something new and finding that you were able to do it .... and it turned out!

As someone with adult ADD (attention deficit disorder), its not unusual for me to loose interest or lack focus when doing anything unless it truly has captured my interest... and that is how I feel about making vessels. Im also a self-taught glass artist so most everything Ive ever learned has been by trial and error, lampwork videos on YouTube, buying tutorials from other lampwork artists, and then there is the process of just trying to decipher how an artist made this or that bead by "mentally deconstructing and reconstructing" in my head.

The one thing Ive been wanting to learn to do for some time, was to learn to make vessels but wasnt sure how to go about it. A good friend of mine gave me some valuable pointers and off I went to try and make it happen. I was thrilled to say the least because I actually made my first vessel and I liked it! :)

Its still somewhat primitive and certainly needs much work but I am far too excited about my new learned skill that I dont want to stop making these vessels until I can make them with ease.

As for regular bead making... Ive come to somewhat of a stand-off in my creativity. I think there is so much going on in my head with my oldest son and his troubles, lack of sleep the past couple weeks, and simply feeling amiss..... so I really have nothing to show, but hope if all goes well, to have a little something to show on my Facebook tomorrow if time allows.

The summer has been fairly mild in my opinion, temperature-wise but my internal temp gauge still is giving me trouble and making me feel over-heated once the temps reach 78 degree, and it doesnt help that Ive had my first summer cold of the season .... another reason for the lack of creativity. Its difficult to torch when its miserably hot and you cant stop sneezing or your nose running while trying to manipulate molten glass!

So rather than fight it... Ive decided to not worry about things, let the chips fall where they may and try to simply enjoy each day.... and if I torch, great.... and if not, its still an opportunity to enjoy the day doing something else.

Christmas in July

Okay, I totally get the Christmas in July promotions that many small local and online shops host during the month of July (I'm one of them!), but I recently heard that many larger retail stores and even national chains now have their Christmas related items up on the shelves already!! Maybe I missed the memo but.... what happened to Labor Day, Halloween and Thanksgiving???

I know that every year large retail (local and national franchise) business need to keep ahead of the holiday seasons and typically put out their holiday-related merchandise a few months before the actually holiday season is here. Im not sure if the rumors Im hearing are just for a week or two sale (since its usually a huge undertaking to put out Christmas merchandise) but Im hoping not! I love Autumn and would hate to see my favorite pumpkins displayed next Santa and his eight not-so-tiny-anymore reindeers. :)

But since we are on the subjec of Christmas in July.... you can find some super cute holiday bead sets/pairs and other items for sale in my Etsy shop from July 8th through July 14th so check it out if you get the chance. :)

I did manage to finally reach 1000 "likes" on my Facebook page over the weekend and couldnt be more happy! In fact, this morning I gave aways two free pairs of beads to two lucky fans! So in a sense, I really pays to "like" my page, hehe.

Coastal Dreaming.....

Im sure many of you that follow my blog have heard me say that I typically dream about beads, bead designs, color, etc..... so it wont be a surprise to know that all I seem to dream about lately is coastal themed beads.

Not really unusual since its summer.... but I typically am not a summer girl (love the iconic imaginary of what summer is) but physically I cant take the heat of summer, so I find it very funny that all my dreams are of summery things, beaches, shells, oceans and a simply, relaxed state of mind. Whatever the reason.... Im beyond thrilled with what Ive been creating at the torch with my coastal theme and dont see it ending anytime soon! :)

As for the 4th of July celebrations, it was a fun one just hanging out at the house, BBQing, playing with the dogs and enjoying a truly fabulous day. The weather couldnt have been better.... and the fireworks were fabulous!

My website is going well and new items are being added weekly! In fact all of my glass treasures from today's Show N Tell on Facebook, are now available on my website. I cant believe it already July 1st! And the 4th of July is just days away. I love summer festivals, celebrations, and anytime when family and friends can get together and spend some time having fun outdoors. Although summer isnt my favorite season (I really cant handle the heat very well), there are many aspects about the summer season that are truly awesome.... like spending time at the beach. As an Aquarian, I believe it is my duty to spend as much time in and/or near water as possible. ;D

So its no surprise that many of my torching sessions are focused one what or another around beach themed sets and jewelry pieces. Ive actually had a really good time creating these latest pieces as I try to build up my inventory for the trade show junket this Fall. I try not to do too many holiday-themed pieces as they are limiting in how long you can wear them, so Im hoping these bright summery bead sets and jewelry designs will be just enough to capture some attention this Fall.

Ive been blessed with having a number of custom orders this month and really enjoying working on them as they have been unique and interesting orders! Im currently working on one that is something of a Disney theme and being a lover of "all things Disney', this order really has make me smile a lot.

I have a number of new and exciting things happening on my website this month. All of them having to do with FREEBIES! Yep, its that time again... and I have three fun challenges! All of the challenges are "easy-peasy" and hopefully a little fun too. If you want to know more about these and possibly win some free stuff.... check out my website's Contest page!

In preparation for the 4th celebrations, I decided to head out to the grocery store and do some shopping. I will admit I havent been in a while (my hubby normally picks up whatever we need on his way home from work), and boy have some things changed.... like, when did bread become so expensive?? One of the reasons I stopped going is that it always took so long to get through the store (always crowded) and the checkout people are always so slow.

I feel like I wait more in the line to check out than I do trying to get through the isle crammed with people and unattended kids. But I have to say.... I had a good time redeveloping my personal relationship with the food items that will grace my fridge, stove/oven and table! I also realized that my hubby is not as frugal as I am when it comes to picking out the best buys.... having now seen the prices of some of the items I recognize from his last shopping trip. I was bound and determined to do a better job!

Im not a veggan or vegetarian... but I have greatly reduced the amount of meat I eat a week from twice a day to 3-4 times a week and Ive been feeling a lot better physically so I really enjoyed spending most of my time in the produce isle as everything looked so fresh, crisp and delicious! I also decided we needed to eat more fish and less meat, and what meat I did get also included ground turkey which when seasoned correctly, tastes amazing! Ive been trying really hard to change our eating habits and food choices without having to give up anything we love... no restrictions.... and Ive finally made peace with moderation.

It took a while but I can see how it is now working for me and I want to compliment that in hopes of decreasing my weight.... so I ordered a product called Sensa which is not a diet pill or diet of any kind but a program using a natural additive that I sprinkle on my food which helps my own body's hunger receptors to kick in more quickly, telling me that I am getting full.

The "tastants" as the additive is called, is virtually tasteless so when sprinkling it on your food, it doesnt alter the taste at all. Its as easy as sprinkling salt or sugar on your food. Ive always believed that if you deprive yourself of what you like/want... it is a guarantee you will fail. With Sensa (and no Im not getting paid to talk about the product), I dont have to restrict or deprive myself of eating what I want, which is key! Course, being more active helps too and I plan to work on doing more of that as well.

Ive just started it and Im hopeful that it will work.... at least Im keeping my fingers crossed. I'll let you know how it goes! :)

What a fabulous start of summer its been! The temps couldnt be more lovely... very mild and cool! Despite the LOADS of rain, its been really nice and has made all the flowers and grass pop with color too.

Even with the outdoors being so wonderful, I did manage to stay in the studio to get some custom orders completed and a few things made for me shop. Check out these goodies and let me know what you think!

Caution: Danger Ahead

The annual Bead & Button show was in Milwaukee again, and of course, I couldnt wait to go. Its a huge highlight for me as it gives me tons of inspiration seeing all the various beads, tools, kits, designers, etc. It really is sensory overload, hehe.... and a *very* dangerous place for your pocketbook! But the money I spent was well worth it, the beads I picked up are awesome, and my friend Tonia and I had a blast.

This year I went with the intention of getting one thing.... metal stamping supplies. Last year I only recall one or two vendors selling stamped metal supplies, so I thought it would be an easy go of it this year.... nope! There were LOADS of vendors selling stamped metal tools and supplies this year and I hit every one of their booths! Im of the believe that if I can make it myself, I'll do it rather than buy it manufactured.... and metal stamping has been something Ive had my eye on for a while (funds pending, of course).

This was the year... and Im still suffering from the effects of that shopping spree, hehe. But Im very excited to get started and incorporate some of my own stamped metal charms into my jewelry pieces and such... so look for those coming to my website soon! :)

In the meantime, Ive been really busy working on custom orders and really enjoying the opportunity as these orders were very much needed after all the medical bills Ive incurred this year! Ive also had some time to make some new sets and jewelry items for my website also.

With the hubby being on vacation this whole week, it has been bliss having him around to help with the dogs so I could devote more time to torching and getting many of the custom orders done that would have taken longer had he not been off.... so thanks honey! :)

Mother Nature's Menopausal?

With the crazy weather everyone's been having, Im guess it might be true! Yesterday was a 90 something and a muggy, hot day... too gross to torch, and today it is now in the mid 40's and chilly! What's up, Mama? So Ive decided Im sending Mother Nature some positive thought and hugs to help her deal with the issues she is apparently going through. :)

Things are starting to pick up a little in my shop. I recently got back into Twitter and have been tweeting updates about my shop, blog and website which have gotten more than a few 'retweets' from others which as been a huge PLUS (thank you, you know who you are!).

Here are some of the newest things Ive been torching. Ive had a number of custom orders lately (yay me) and so not really had time to create much for the website this week, but hoping to include some new stuff this weekend. In the meantime, check these goodies out and let me know what you think!

Come On, Summer Fun....

Finally, summer has arrived. I dont know about you but I was at the end of my rope with the overly cool and rainy wet weather. Thank goodness the sun finally came out and the temps got up to the 80's for Memorial Day! It was a truly beautiful day. We spent the day planting some geraniums, BBQ's, playing with the dogs out in the back yard and enjoying the sunshine and the company of my youngest son and his girlfriend, Anna. I hope your long weekend was as just as nice.

Being in a rather creatively depressed state due to the wet and cold temps, my torching sessions were obsessed with warm "themes"! Here is what came out of the kiln this last week. Take a look and tell me what you think! ;)

The Color Combo Challenge group Im a member of on Facebook, is going great. I'm really loving this group and I have to say, the random color choices that are picked each week really have jumped started my creativity when I was feeling none. This week is all about the sand, surf and sea.... beachy tan, royal and turquoise blue, white, and bright yellow, and was inspired by one of our members, Carrie, who is currently battling cancer. It was a lot of fun working with her to narrow down the color theme... and Im sure the challenge will be a fun one too!

After taking some time off.... a "mini hiatus" if you will.... Ive begun taking custom orders again, and enjoying the process with some minor changes. Im still dedicated to limiting myself on how many I take on as well as extending the time frame when they will be completed, and the number of days I will devote to custom orders.... and hoping I can keep with this process! Crossing my fingers.

At the moment, I am just finishing up my last of 7 custom orders and feel very proud that I managed to get them all done within the 2 custom work days Ive allotted for myself each week. I can only hope that the buyers will enjoy their custom orders as much as I did making them. :)

I recently created something brand new (at least for me) which is a limited edition clip-on charm for Summer 2011. My thought is to make a limited number of a very special charm (two different charms per year: one for summer, and one for Fall or Winter) and when they are gone... their gone for good. So I came up with my first one which is the limited edition Lighthouse Charm 2011 which I truly love! It definitely sparks memories of summer fun on the coast, playing on the beach, collecting seashells and playing in the surf with my family when I was growing up!

This limited edition charm has already gotten some "love" from some of my friends and loyal buyers as Ive already received a good number of pre-orders for them. As soon as the 2011 charms come in, these pre-orders will be shipped out to their eager owners to enjoy as soon as possible! My little golden boy, Tucker (our golden retriever) is growing by leaps and bounds.... literally! I dont think Ive ever seen a dog "bounce" as much as he does, lol. So of course, we have nicknamed his "Tigger" for that very reason.... but he is so adorable and full of energy, and a very smart dog. He is still in training but at 4 mos old, he is doing surprisingly well and we are so proud of the handsome, well-mannered (sort of) dog he is becoming! :D There is nothing as awesome as a golden retriever.... unless you also have a 5 yr old Boston Terrier (Ripley Bleu) and a 15 mos yr old Chihuahua/Terrier (Brody aka "Mr. Princess"). I was a little skeptical about having three dogs at first, thinking I would be completely overwhelmed and worried that I wouldnt be able to establish myself as the pack leader over all three of them, but those worries flew right out the window as now they look to me for their next command, obey pretty well, and love cuddling up next to me (all THREE of them) when Im in the living room. Dogs. Gotta love 'em! :)

Another Manic Monday

Wow... today's Facebook Show n Tell was quite a whirlwind! It went pretty quickly and many items sold, which is always a happy moment for me, lol! All in all.... today is looking pretty good!

Ive been really connecting with my muse lately because the creativity has been flowing out of me like water from a spout! Its been awesome.... and Im so inspired. Mainly because I recently joined a Facebook group hosted by a friend of mine (Charis of Blue Shark Diva Designs) called the Color Combo Challenge Group. Each week a color palette is chosen and artist of all mediums in the group create something with the chose color scheme. Everyone has a week and on Sunday and Monday, participants enter photos of their creations. Judging is done purely by happenstance, and prizes are donated by members of the group.

The friendship, support, affirmation and the gorgeous color schemes that are voted on each week are so much fun and really generate a lot of enthusiasm! Ive definitely felt a surge come over me since joining. So far Ive made it through 2 weeks and looking forward to the next challenge.

Despite our breeze and shivering weather (we've been in the 40's and low 50's for a few weeks now), Ive managed to keep the torch going and the kiln operating. The last two weeks offered FOUR show n tells, which is awesome!

Whenever I feel happy and creative, I feel generous.... so of course, I have a couple sales going on in my Etsy shop and Artfire shop as well. On the home front, Ive decided on a color scheme for our living room. Ive been debating the paint color for a while and Tuesday will be the day we paint! Im so excited. The colors are bold, but I saw a really fabulous french country living decor with this color palette and the dark walls and Ive not been able to get it out of my head.... Ive been wanting to paint a room black for a while and now Im going to do ... this Tuesday! I will admit Im a little nervous about the black, so we are only painting 2-1/2 walls and the other walls will be a lovely butter yellow to help bounce light around the room and off-set the black a bit. Its only paint.... and so if I truly dig the black walls and want to make them all black I can and if not... I can always repaint!

Our spring has been rather cold to say the least, but I keep the torch going in hopes that Mother Nature will take cue and bring on some warmer temps soon! ;)

Mother's Day

Mother's Day is this weekend (Sunday actually) and Ive always thought "Mom" should get more than just one day for appreciation, dont you? :) And being a Mom... Im even more convinced, lol!

If all goes well and the weather is nice (which it hasnt been since Spring started), my hubby, son and his girlfriend and I plan to visit the zoo for Mother's Day, which for me is a really fabulous gift.

April Showers Bring May Flowers?

I certainly hope so! I think Ive really had enough of the cold and wet weather lately! I say "bring on the sun"!

In my attempt to fool myself about the dreary weather, Ive been concentrating on some spring and summery feeling bead sets and jewelry pieces! Check out these new "pretties".... and feel free to let me know what you think of them! ;)

The weekend is finally here! Supposedly its going to reach in the 60's on Saturday and I would love nothing more than to get outside and see if I cant get my backyard in order. If Im really lucky... the weather will stay nice into Sunday as well. If not.... well, there is always staying in a torching.

Skipping Along....

I hope your Easter was an eventful as ours was. We had a wonderful time as we spent the day with my youngest son and his girlfriend Anna. Since both my boys are now grown and we havent had small kids in the house for years, Ive all but stopped dying Easter eggs since there really wasnt anyone to hunt for them.... but Anna said she loved dying eggs (which I do too) so we picked up a kit and as soon as they came over that afternoon, we got busy boiling eggs. My youngest son is an amazing cook and took charge of boiling the eggs for us. I was telling him that if he brought the eggs to a full boil and then turned them off to sit for 13 mins, they would be perfectly cooked (it also helps to put them into an ice bath right after the 13 mins which cause the egg to retract from shell making it easier to peel).

Once the eggs were done, we immediate broke out the dying kit and began to experiment. We found the dyes were pretty wimpy by themselves so being the creative people we are, we broke out the food coloring, salt and anything else we could find. Im particularly a fan of the salt effect and adding tiny drops of food coloring really gave them a tie dye look. The eggs looked so pretty so my dear hubby grabbed the camera to take photos.

Anna looked at me and said, "let's toast to Easter", holding up an egg. So I grabbed one of mine and on the count of three, we would tap our eggs together, cracking their shell. "One... Two.... Three.". Crack ..... and plop!

Much to our surprise.... our eggs were only soft boiled rather than hard boiled as we believed. Seems there were something lost in translation in regards to the comment (bring to a full boil, then let stand for 13 mins). We all looked at each other and broke into a huge laugh-fest. There we were holding pretty colored shells while the contents of our eggs lie puddled on the kitchen rug. Despite the little mess we made, the day couldnt have been more perfect... the sun was shining, the day was gorgeous, our dinner of cornish hens, herbed roasted red potatoes, green salad, asparagus, and a mixed fruit torte was heaven!

Its very easy for us to get caught up in striving for perfection when it comes to the holidays or anything in our life, but I think the real awesome moments in life are the ones that arent so perfect and end up being the most memorable. This definitely will be another one of those memorable moments that happens every so often! :D

My Show n Tell this morning on my Facebook page was loads of fun too. I was really so happy with how the bead sets came out and couldnt wait for 11am to roll around so I could show them off on my facebook page! Some of the sets sold out immediately (thank you) and the others are now listed and available on my website.

Now that Easter has come and gone, its now time to turn our attention to the hardest working women on the planet.... Mothers! Mother's Day is May 8th which means that there are only 2 weeks remaining until we spend the day celebrating the woman who makes our lives easier, our tummies happier, and are hearts warm with love.

Can you believe it.... we are almost at the half way mark of 2011, and what better way to celebrate than spring flowers, bunnies, lazy sunday afternoons, dragonflies, butterflies, families ... and Easter!

This weekend I will not only be torching (I simply cant get enough of it, lol) but also doing some light cleaning up in preparation for my family who will be coming over to celebrate Easter at our little homestead. I really wanted to do something a little different for this year's dinner, as we typically do ham or rabbit... but my son's girlfriend (Anna) heart almost dropped when I mentioned the idea of having rabbit for dinner, stating that now she would have horrible visions of sweet little Peter Cottontail hopping down the bunny trail with his basket of goodies only to unknowingly meet his demise and wind up splayed on a bed of roasted veggies sitting on our dinner table. So we are having cornish hens instead, which I believe she said she could handle eating those.

We are also having roasted asparagus (which I dont believe our dear Anna has any reservations about) with homemade hollandaise sauce, roasted herb fingerling potatoes, a lush green salad with all the garden favorites and a raspberry vinaigrette, and a cool and palate-cleansing lemon torte. Of course, there is the dying of the Easter eggs, which we will do (even though the kids are all grown and nobody here is willing to hide or hunt for them) and then end up making deviled eggs out of them as well as adding some to a potato salad the next day. My only wish is that the temps would warm up, the rain would find some place dry to sprinkle on... and give us a beautiful Easter day to be outside.

As for my torching sessions.... well my work is never done. Mainly because I -love- to torch and for me, its not work at all, LOL! Besides, I am planning for another Show n Tell on my Facebook page on Monday, mid-morning. I havent done one of these in a long while, and believe me... I have enough gorgeous photos of designer creations to do several of these showcases! I really enjoy seeing creations that have been made using my beads, whether it be from those who see their designs to those who keep them or give them as gifts. Each one is inspiring, and I feel all "warm and fuzzy" inside for being chosen to be a small part of their design!

Check out Jen from Bead on a Wire on Etsy. She's a number cruncher for the government by day - jewelry maker when she has free time. She's am happily married with one son and one daughter. She's definitely a creative person, and a lovely person. Check out her shop to see all her designs!

Im soooo in love with this bracelet from Cindy Lougee of CalDESIGN Naurals! Cindy came to me asking if I could make a sugar skull bead for a 16 year old girl she is making a bracelet for. She indicated the young girl was really into skulls, rainbows, and being 16, anything that was really cool. So I made a sugar skull with a rainbow eye. On its own, it was kinda cool.... but seeing it fashioned in this design that is so amazingly "Cindy", Im totally blown away! Im half tempted to ask Cindy to make me one just like it, LOL! Cindy recently opened a shop on Etsy where she makes and sells her handmade metal clay charms, buttons and "bits". She is incredibly talented and Im thrilled to actually own a OOAK earring design from her that I love to wear! Check out her shop!

The lovely Debra J Beach of String Bead Studio is a real living doll, and unique, creative designer (as well as a very good friend of mine)! She grabbed up my Twilight bead set last year and fashioned this adorable bracelet that any Twilight fan would fall head over heels for! Debra is starting out with getting her business going, but in the meantime... you can visit her on her facebook page, String Bead Studio and look for more of her fabulous creations coming soon!

Charis of Blue Shark Diva Designs is the fabulous designer of this amazing piece and so many other truly unique pieces. Charis is a natural born designer! Just take a look at the stunning pieces in her Etsy shop and you'll see that Charis IS a design Diva and is serious about beading. She also is the creator and group owner of the CCC (Color Combo Challenge) on Facebook which is a super fun group of creative people who enjoy the challenge of designing/making something fabulous each week inspired by a set color palette.

Misty of Gemma Beads is another one of my favorite designers. With a background in drafting and design, this former interior designer definitely found her niche when she began to design beautiful one-of-a-kind, unique jewelry. Not only does she create wearable art pieces, she is also a fellow lampworker! Her shop on Etsy is definitely a "must see" as it is eye candy for the heart and soul. Check it out!

LiviLu by Denise and Katie is a mother and daughter team of designers who's shop on Etsy (aka livilubaby) is nothing short of brilliant.... from the designs down to the color palette!

Its impossible to not fall in love with their designs. Their shop is like Christmas morning... filled with amazing delights, each one unique and full of charm! The number of lampwork artisan beads they use is completely impressive as is their way with making each piece come alive! If you have an hour or two to spend... check out their shop... and trust me when I say, its not hard to loose yourself while in there!

Jodi of Loopie Beads is an amazing designer and stamped metal artist from the big state of Texas who's designs are down right charming, playful and distinctive! A stay-at-home mother of two growing boys, Jodi turned to searching for lampwork beads and creating one of a kind, personalized stamped charms, and lampwork jewelry! A real sweetheart of a lady, Jodi is always willing to do custom work and loves the happiness her designs always bring her customers! You can also find Loopie Beads on Facebook, so stop by, say "Hi", and tell her I sent you!

Jan of Jan Tanis Designs (formerly known as Rose Haven Designs) on Artfire is lives in Michigan and is a former interior designer who clearly has an eye for design, color... and photo staging!! Her style is romantic, timeless with a touch of victorian splendor! Its a real honor to one of the many lampwork artisan beads she includes in her designs... and her photos are truly amazing. She also is an amazing textile artist with her own line of hand-crochet afghans! Stop by and check out her creations!

Vee Tester of Very Vee on Etsy is from Lockport NY, and has wanted to sell her handmade creations since she was a child. Having had a truly talented mother, Vee's love for all things handmade shows in her designs throughout her shop! From the whimsical to the classical beauties... Vee has a little something for everyone!

This Designer Showcase wouldnt be complete without the fabulous Vickie Barber Ellis of SunshineJewels. Her line, called Studio V is unlike anything Ive ever seen. Vickie is a child of creativity and it shows in every piece she creates. She designs outside of the box, and I wouldnt put it past her in thinking she probably colored outside of the lines as a child too! For those who admire, love and/or own her pieces.... this is what makes Vickie so unique.

Vickie of SunshineJewels.com is a renaissance artist in that she is not only puts together her pieces in such a way that is not like anything you've ever seen, but also creates the metal work clasps and ornate metal pieces used in her designs! With Vickie, its all about texture, color, and the different elements that evoke feelings of giddiness! Should you find yourself in need of a truly unique piece for yourself or someone special, check out her website. You can also find Vickie and her designs on Facebook!

Hope you enjoyed these designers as much as I have showcasing them! I know each of them personally and they are not only talented designers but some of the sweetest people Ive ever met!

No Snow!

I really was into that Spring feeling... and then it turned cold and started to snow. Snow! Just doesnt seem right to me, but then again... I live in the north midwest and its not uncommon to have snow well into May (Ive heard there has been white flakes seen in June too... and yes Im still talking about snow). Sadly, the forecast is saying the snow isnt gone, that we are still expecting to see more of it. I guess the only thing a girl can do is keep away from the windows, turn on the torch and pretend its Spring in the studio!

My website is going well, and Im thankful for the sales Ive been getting.... especially with the new bead sets and pandora sets and beads Ive made the past week! They were lots of fun and I know that the buyers of those beads will have fun creating with them.

Here is just a sample of the glass goodies Ive listed and sold on my website. Ive also sent out a couple newsletters and acquired a number of new subscribers as well. In fact, when someone joins my private mailing list... they are automatically entered in a drawing to win a few set of beads on April 30th! Ive also been loosing weight, steadily and keeping it off (which is the real test of a good weight loss routine).... and I think Ive -finally- figured out a routine that works for me and my life. Ive cut back on meats, not needing to eat meat at every meal, increased my good carb intake (lots of different kinds of salads because I *love* salads), increased my water intake (we have filtered water that is hooked to our kitchen sink and icemaker), more fruit and yogurt, and making sure to keep a positive mind and keep physical active throughout the day (even the littlest bit of exercise helps such as walking up and down stairs, mopping, vacuuming, and other housework). I am only 9 lbs away from the weight I was when I quit Jenny Craig a little over a year ago.... and I didnt have to eat pre-portioned TV dinners or spend a lot of money on those TV dinners either. Even my hubby is impressed with my loss and determination in sticking with this.

When I was in the hospital back in February, my family and I really didnt do anything to celebrate my birthday (other than the verbal "happy birthday" greeting) so I decided with Easter coming up and family coming over to spend the holiday together.... it would be a perfect day to also celebrate my birthday. I dont know why I never thought of this before! All these years Ive spent my birthday in the gray, bitter cold of winter and had to look forward to Valentine's day type decorations because my birthday is just before V-Day. So you can imagine my excitement to be able to celebrate in April with thoughts of little green shoots sprouting up from the ground, flowers beginning to unfurl, birds chirping, and warm sunshine..... until the snow came. Oh well.

We still have a week for the weather to warm up before Easter gets here.... otherwise I think I may celebrate my birthday next year, on May 30th.

Slow n' Steady

So the new website has been up and running for two days now and Im tickled pink to see items being purchased on it. As most of you know, Ive maintained a number of shops on Etsy and Artfire at the same time either showcasing my bead sets or my jewelry... but never together. I found it difficult to sell one over the other when both were in the shop, thus splitting them apart. Yet it seems to work different when its your own website.... at least for me. I really wanted to combine everything I do on one site.... with ONE login to check orders, etc! So far, sales have been slow and steady, and Im truly thankful.

I will admit that the color scheme of my new website is a bit much for my liking. I like color and the colors I have are pleasing, but.... Im hoping to change the layout to something that is more neutral colors to show off my colorful beads and jewelry better and so they are not competing with the background colors of my site. Im thinking whites, creams, tan and pale bluish grey, with a touch of bark brown in a shabby chic style but with a realistic photo feel (like barn wood, backyard garden photos, b/w photo of my own house... something that gives that "welcoming" feeling).

Speaking of neutrals and black and white. I came across a pendant of an owl the other day, that Ive been wanting to do something with for the longest time. Its really cute, has some weight to it and has a hollow body, but the most striking thing about it is the color scheme of black, white and touches of antique brass with swarvo crystals! As you can see from the pattern in the owl in my photo, the black daisies and crystals are so elegant, and the antique brass is the perfect touch of warmth. The first set I made was a complete failure with each bead splitting in half, which I believe was due to my kiln shutting off when the power "blipped" causing it to not finish a complete and proper annealing cycle. They were so cute that I just HAD to made them over again, and this time... I made a third set... just in case! As you can see, the set looks fabulous with the owl pendant (even though the owl is not for sale)!

Ive already sold one daisy set today, but there is still a second set that is available on my website.

Im also trying my hand at mixing my own colors since Ive not found a pretty peachy pink opaque glass or transparent glass in the 104 (maybe its just eluded me all this time, LOL). Apricot Orchard pair was my inspiration for wanting to try and mix some peachy glass... but at the very last minute, I decided to go with ivory instead to really make the roses stand out.

The frit blent, Apricot Orchard by BeadGoodies, is a really pretty blend of peach and apricot tones that is really pretty over clear glass and silver foil. These too are available on my website.

My youngest son and his sweet girlfriend want hubby and I to go to the zoo with them this weekend ... and although I know the weather forecast predicts rain showers and in the 50's on Saturday, Im -hoping- that this wont be the case, otherwise I'll most likely be in my studio with my iTunes cranked up and torching the raining day away.

Last Saturday the weather was total bliss, in the 70's and then.... the very next day it turned cold again. Welcome to Spring in Wisconsin, LOL! :D

Its official! Today I -finally- have a website where I can sell all of my lampwork beads and jewelry in one location! Right now the color scheme is temporary until I get one designed for me, but the shop is up and live... in fact Ive already had 3 sales today!

As well as trying to get a website up and going... Ive also been torching like a mad woman. A *happy*, mad woman! Spring has finally sprung here in WI and although there isnt a lot of green or bright floral colors to show for it yet, there definitely has been some color coming out of my kiln in the way of florals and "easter-y" things.... take a look!

Im really feeling like my old self, as someone put it to me... which is exactly how Ive been feeling... old, but a happy old, and still feeling my bliss at the torch!

My youngest son and his darling girlfriend will be coming over for Easter and I cant wait to spend time with them. Family is so important to me, so Im usually "over the moon" when it comes to having my family share the holidays, weekends, or any time together!

Rolling with the Punches

So its been a really chaotic first four months of 2011 for me. With two surgeries within 3 weeks of each other, and 9 weeks away from the torch.... its been tough getting back into the swing of things, but Im getting there slowly.

Im also back at the torch and SO HAPPY. I cant tell you how miserable it is not being able to do the very thing you love to do more than anything! Frustrating doesnt come close to describing it, lol.

And as soon as I did announce my return, I had lots of awesome customers waiting with custom orders! Its taken me well over a week now to get through them all (and I still have 3 remaining) but after much thought, I finally decided to "say no" and announce that I wont be taking any more custom orders for a while. I really need to get back to "simply creating" which seems to be when I create my best bead sets (and customer favorites). I have no doubt I will be taking custom orders again in the months to come, but for now Im looking forward to some well needed "play time" at the torch.... and with 9 weeks of thinking, drawing and dreaming of colorful bead set designs.... Im sure I wont be running out of inspiration any time soon!

Hopefully the sales will start to pick up again too. The economy is still pretty rough, as my Etsy bead sales and even my Artfire jewelry sales have been very slow. Ive been talking about starting my own website for about a year now, and finally decided to take the plunge and do it. I decided to go with people from "The Cutest Site on the Block" and found a darling theme that fit my personality. Best part is that they host it for me, set up the layout, shopping cart and photo pages for me, and all I have to do is add the photos and pertinent content to personalize it. If all goes well, I will have the Grand Opening before Easter, combining my lampwork bead sets and unique lampwork jewelry on one site. This means I will be scaling down my Etsy shop (just a few bead sets and a link in the announcement to my website), and I'll more than likely close my Artfire shop since I pay a monthly fee.

Whoosh! There it went!

Wow.... where did the time go? Seems I need to do some updating since my last post was in January!

The reason for the LONG lapse in writing is that in the beginning of February I had neck surgery which had me in a neck brace for 6 weeks. However, in the 4th week I developed some leg pain and after a number of ER visits, it was determined that I had cellulitis in my leg which left it in severe pain and swollen. Its still swollen and in pain, just not nearly as severe. I have 2 more weeks before I will officially be released from my neck brace and can once again resume my normal life, something which is has not been the last 4 weeks. With all this going on.... I honestly wasnt in much of a blogging mood, but Im happy to say that I am on the mend and hope to get a fabulous feature out this weekend showcasing some of the amazing jewelry designs and designers who have used my lampwork beads in their designs, including a fabulous lady who's patriotic design, when sold, will be going to help a wonderful charity called Soldier's Angels. You dont want to miss this feature!

As for my torching.... well, the flame as been extinguished and the torch has been cold for some time. Funny thing is, I never thought that my not being able to move my head up and down, side to side, would cause me difficulty in making glass beads, but its amazing what little body motions we take for granted. So as patient as I can be, Im waiting for the day I see the doc and she says I can take off the brace for good. Then I will be torching like a pyromaniac, and what amazing beads they will be as Ive had nothing but weeks to jot down ideas, search for inspiration, and sketch out bead designs!!! The excitement is almost too much to handle, LOL!

But in the meantime... I think I'll just keep dreaming of beads, and every now and then go "pet my torch" so she knows I havent forgotten her! :)
